Nanoparticles, a Double-Edged Sword with Oxidant as Well as Antioxidant Properties—A Review
نویسندگان
چکیده
The usage of nanoparticles became inevitable in medicine and other fields when it was found that they could be administered to hosts act as oxidants or antioxidants. These oxidative pro-oxidants induce stress-mediated toxicity through the generation free radicals. Some can antioxidants scavenge these radicals help maintaining normal metabolism. oxidant antioxidant properties rely on various factors including size, shape, chemical composition, etc. also them taken up by cells lead further interaction with cell organelles/biological macromolecules, leading either prevention damage, creation mitochondrial dysfunction, damage genetic material, cytotoxic effects. It is important know make oxidants/antioxidants mechanisms behind them. In this review, roles are explained.

A Double-Edged Sword?
The enormous benefits of inhibition of ACE demonstrate that manipulation of the metabolism of peptide hormones is a valuable therapeutic strategy for cardiovascular disease. Recent attempts to expand these benefits have combined ACE inhibition with inhibition of other peptidases such as neutral endopeptidase (NEP) in a single molecule, a strategy known as vasopeptidase inhibition. NEP metaboliz...
متن کاملRole of cytokines as a double-edged sword in sepsis.
BACKGROUND Sepsis is a deadly immunological disorder and its pathophysiology is still poorly understood. We aimed to determine if specific pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory cytokines can be used as diagnostic and therapeutic targets for sepsis. MATERIALS AND METHODS Recent publications in the MEDLINE database were searched for articles regarding the clinical significance of inflammatory ...

Ischemic heart disease remains a leading cause of morbidity and mortality. The survival after acute ischemic events has improved substantially in recent years, but new syndromes have emerged. Cardiac remodeling following a large myocardial infarction, with dilatation of the left ventricle, has deleterious hemodynamic consequences and is a major cause of chronic heart failure.1 The increased inc...
متن کاملGangliosides as a Double-Edged Sword in Neurodegenerative Disease
Gangliosides are sialic acid-containing glycolipids that are mainly localized in the outer leaflet of the plasma membrane of vertebrate cells and are involved in diverse physiological functions such as cell growth, differentiation, and cell-cell recognition(Hakomori, 1990). In the nervous system, gangliosides are highly expressed in neurons and are implicated in neurite outgrowth, synaptogenesi...
